Professor Dr. VladimÝr Kopal

Prof. Dr. Vladimír Kopal is Professor of International Law at the West Bohemian University of Pilsen, Czech Republic, and Vice-President of the International Institute of Space Law. Earlier, he was chief of the Department of International Law and Organization at the Institute of Law of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences and Professor of International Law at Charles University of Prague. In 1981, he became a UN principal officer and up to 1988, he was chief of the Outer Space Affairs Division in New York. Since 1962 Professor Kopal participated in many sessions of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, its subcommittees and working groups, either as a delegate of his country, or as the UN officer. He also served as Chairman of the COPUOS Legal Subcommittee (1999-2003 and 2008-2009). Professor Kopal is the author of more than 250 monographs, articles and other papers relating to general international law, the law of outer space and the law of the sea.
